Airport Overview
London Heathrow Airport (IATA: LHR, ICAO: EGLL), often referred to as Heathrow, is the busiest airport in the world in terms of international passenger traffic. It is also the United Kingdom's busiest and best-connected airport, the busiest airport in Europe and the third busiest in the world (Behind Atlanta and Chicago) in terms of total passenger traffic (domestic and international). In terms of plane movements and cargo traffic it is the third-busiest behind Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport and Frankfurt International Airport.
The airport is located in the London Borough of Hillingdon, 15 miles (24 km) west of Charing Cross in Central London. It has two parallel main runways running east-west and four terminals. A new terminal, Terminal 5, is under construction and there are plans to redevelop or rebuild other terminals. The airport is the largest of 5 airports serving London.
